The “curtain” falling stands for the relationship ending. Calling himself a “faithful clown” implies that he feels foolish, perhaps kept around for company, yet loyal all the same.

The song presents the woman’s behavior through the speaker’s eyes, so his certainty that she does not love him may reflect his interpretation rather than an objective account. He might be exposing a real deception, or expressing the pain and suspicion of someone who feels unwanted. His willingness to take part in the “masquerade” makes the ending especially sad: he sees the performance, but cannot—or does not want to—leave it.
