The lyrics seem to describe a young person moving through a confusing transition toward adulthood. The speaker notices that their body is changing and feels frightened, while an encounter with an older man leaves them unsettled. Repeatedly saying they have “lost” or “can’t find” their way conveys uncertainty rather than a clear destination. The mood shifts between observation, fear, and a sense of being overwhelmed.

“Twilight” suggests a time between day and night, and may also represent being between childhood and adulthood. The repeated image of a “shadow” makes this transition feel unclear or hidden; “boy meets man” presents growing up as a meeting between two stages of life. Running in the rain and being soaked “through the skin” may suggest exposure to difficult feelings, as though the speaker cannot keep those feelings at a distance.

The lyrics leave important details open. The closed eyes and the old man’s attempt to walk the speaker home could point to a troubling or confusing experience, but the song does not explain exactly what happened.
