Lyrics meaning

The song follows someone who longs to leave his rural home for a more exciting life elsewhere. He believes he can find something better, and he travels widely, seeking pleasure, wealth, and even divine help. But none of these brings the satisfaction he expected. He decides to return, and the ending suggests that seeing home again is powerful, perhaps painful as well as comforting.

A “lopin de terre” is a small patch of land, while the crooked old tree and evening light make the home feel modest but familiar. The repeated image of the sun on “walls of dust” suggests a simple landscape marked by everyday life. “He burned his eyes” can mean that returning home overwhelms him: the light and memories are almost too much to face. It may also hint at regret or the cost of having looked elsewhere.

The song does not simply say that travel is pointless or that home is perfect. The traveler may discover that what he had dismissed as ordinary carried deep value because it held family history and shared warmth. Yet his return may not erase his disappointment or change the place itself. The final repetition leaves his feelings open: he may be moved by recognition, blinded by emotion, or unable to bear what he now sees.
