Porcupine Pie

The lyrics describe a speaker considering a series of bizarre foods, especially “porcupine pie.” The mood is playful and absurd rather than serious. The speaker changes their mind about ordering, then seems to accept the strange dish, while the song’s silly details keep the scene unpredictable.

The food combinations—vanilla soup, blue cheese with fruit, and chicken-flavored ice cream—mix familiar ingredients in unexpected ways. Gloves are needed because the pie might turn the eater’s hands green, a comic exaggeration that makes the dish seem both messy and magical. The image of the pie weaving a web from a drink is also deliberately puzzling, as if the food has taken on a life of its own.

The song may simply be enjoying nonsense for its own sake, inviting listeners to picture an impossible menu. It could also suggest the fun of trying something unusual, even when it sounds strange, but the lyrics do not explain why the speaker wants the pie. The final food order remains confusing, so it is best read as part of the song’s playful, dreamlike logic rather than a clear story.
