Before He Cheats

The singer imagines her partner flirting with another woman and responds by damaging his truck. The lyrics move from jealous, angry suspicion to a bold, almost triumphant declaration that she will not stay with someone who cheats. Her actions are presented as revenge, while the repeated refrain suggests she hopes the consequences will make him think twice.

Several details create a vivid scene. “Four-wheel drive” and leather seats make the truck seem like a prized possession, so scratching it and breaking its headlights feels like a deliberate attack on what he values. A “Louisville slugger” is a baseball bat; the phrase emphasizes how forceful her retaliation is. “Think before he cheats” means consider the consequences before being unfaithful. The imagined scenes of dancing, drinking, and playing pool contrast with her unseen act of revenge.

The song’s tone is energetic and defiant, but the speaker’s certainty about what he is doing is based on what she imagines: “probably” appears repeatedly. We cannot know from the lyrics whether she has proof of cheating or is acting on suspicion. Her revenge may sound empowering in the song, yet damaging someone’s property is also reckless. The ending is clearest about her personal decision: whatever happens next, she says she will not be the next person he cheats on.
