Lyrics
On my mother's side I was the third Virginia
But people called me Claire except for substitute teachers
Some hard-working women in our line
Though maybe not the kind you'd see picketing with signs
Ooh
The first Virginia poses with a fish
As tall head to tail as the man she's standing with
His name was Phin - I don't know much about him
But he dies in '59 and we've been dealing with it since
Ooh
The second Virginia never told any lies
One day I asked her, "Mom, how did your Daddy die?"
She sat down on that yellow kitchen floor
I listened close, I rarely ever saw my Mom cry
Ooh, Ooh
There have been and there will be more Virginias
Girl, you'll find the strength you never knew you had in you
It helps to know that some have paved the way
Not just Dolly and June but those who share your name
Ooh, Ooh...
