Lyrics
Once we walked so starry-eyed
Where confetti fell
But now faded posters say
"The carnival is closed today"
Ferris wheel standing still
Empty carousel
My prized balloon has flown away
The carnival is closed today
Yesterday's calliope
Piped so happily
As merry the merry-go-round
Went round and round
Cracker jacks and kewpie dolls
Laughing clowns were we
How hollow the laughter can sound
And sound, and sound, ah
Silly clown, go on home
It's over, can't you tell?
He found another place to play
The carnival is closed today
Yesterday's calliope
Piped so happily
All these foolish yesterdays
Laughing now at me
How hollow the laughter can sound
And sound, and sound, ah
Silly clown, go on home
It's over, can't you tell?
He found another place to play
The carnival is closed
Oh, the carnival is closed
The carnival is closed
Today
