When I was seven years old
Nobody told me that
Everyone you with, they ain't your homies
When I was seven years old
Look, uh
Life goin' fast, but we kids and we thinkin' it'll be that way forever
So we waste time (waste time)
Roamin' the hood as a kid seem big, yeah
'Cause we never went 'cross the state line (state line)
Had to go outside just to talk to each other back then
'Cause we didn't have FaceTime
I was gettin' off track, seein' what - seen
It was hard tryna walk in a straight line
By 13, we was smokin' weed and poppin' them perkies
At that time, I didn't even know what a Perc' mean
I was gettin' beatin', my momma would hurt me
So I had to cope
Numbin' myself from the pain, I would tote
13, when my first song got wrote
13, when my lil' heart got broke
Wishin' that I wasn't born, but I didn't have a vote, uh
14, when I first seen what it's like with no support or no team
Prone to givin' up on your dreams
I learned the definition of a dope fiend
Just somebody who's strugglin', battlin' life
That could've been me on a regular night
It 'posed to been me, but I put up a fight
Despite what I was told, knew my future was bright
15, when I was first met Steff
Thank God, I was all by myself
Havin' sinned, God knew I needed help
Love really do it for you when it ain't nothin' else left
I was 'bout to give up, I put my heart on the shelf
Wuan gettin' locked up wasn't good on my health
Even though I had it hard growin' up every step
It's priceless, I promise, the memories kill
Once I was 20 years old
I knew that I'd be great
Even though they did me wrong for so mo- long
It feel good to put a smile on they face
'Cause I knew damn well, I'd do everything that I dreamed
It just showed up late (showed up late)
But God's timing is real, it's the reason he made me wait
Oh, once I was 20 years old
Life finally shown me that
Some of those around wasn't my homies
Once I was 20 years old
Soon I'll be 30 years old
Some went platinum, some went gold
Everything I said I'd do, I finally finished
Soon I'll be 30 years old (30 years)
When I was seven years old
