Way out yonder and high on the hill
There lives an ol' boy with a copper line still
In a shotgun shack with his wife and kids
Makin' moonshine like his daddy did
Once a month when the moon gets low
He loads up the truck and away he goes
From North Carolina to East Tennessee
To make a little money for the family
If you see him coming get out of his way
don't try to back him down
He got a pistol and a rifle and a new shotgun
Don't you go messin' with a poor man's son
Where he's living ain't nobody know
So deep in the woods even the law won't go
People been coming for miles around
For that good corn liquor in an old fruit jar
He don't care about the world outside
Don't give a damn if it pass him by
Living off the land wild and free
Like his Grandaddy learned from the Cherokee
If you see him coming get out of his way
Don't try to track him down
He got a pistol and a rifle and a new shotgun
Don't you go messin' with a poor man's son
A family tradition going down the line
He and his kin been making moonshine
living off the land wild and free
like his Grandaddy learned from the Cherokee
If you see him coming get out of his way
Don't try to back him down
He got a pistol and a rifle and a new shotgun
Don't you go messin' with a poor man's son
Way out yonder and high on the hill
There live an ol' boy with a copper line still
