B-A-9-8-7 TXL Berlin Tatl Airport to LHR London Heathrow
I am seated right behind the curtain
First row economy
Right behind the business class
Where envy is at its greatest
My knees grind into the back of the front seat
B-A-27 LHR London Heathrow to HKG Hong Kong, China
Yes, I'll have a tea please
And maybe a gin tonic
Make that three
L-O-6-7-7 from WAW Frederic Chopin Airport, Warsaw, Poland to SVO Sheremetyevo Airport, Moscow, Russia
The flight is two hours late
My throat is
I order a cognac in the depature hall, take a sip, set down the glass
Before I can take a second sip the rim of the glass is covered with fruit flies
Too late
Too many dead flies are already swimming in the glass
I leave the restaurant and our departure is still a long time off
Go to the gate
A small room with benches all facing the airfield
Small window marked drink bar
The cognac here is cheaper
Since my last I make a second try
But the drama repeats itself
By the time I cover the glass with my passport
Which at the time is green with a golden eagle on it
There are already several flies swimming in it
Drosophila melanogaster
Drosophila melanogaster
Drosophila melanogaster
Dew-loving, dew-loving, dew-loving black-bodied flies
Drosophila melanogaster
Drosophila melanogaster
Dew-loving
