Femme Fatale

The speaker warns someone about a woman he sees as charming but emotionally dangerous. At first, the lyrics sound like a confident caution: she will make a person feel special, then hurt or embarrass them. The repeated label “femme fatale” makes the warning feel like a familiar story, while the speaker’s sharp tone suggests disapproval—and perhaps fascination.

Several phrases describe this pattern. “Builds you up to just put you down” means raising someone’s hopes or confidence before disappointing them. Being “number 37” in her book implies that the person is one of many, not a unique romantic interest. The “false colored eyes” may suggest an attractive but misleading appearance; it could also simply emphasize how the speaker distrusts her. “Play you for a fool” means tricking or using someone.

The lyrics present her almost entirely through the speaker’s judgment, so they do not tell us what she thinks or why she behaves this way. The warning may reflect genuine concern, but its repeated, dramatic claims could also be an exaggeration shaped by jealousy or hurt. The song’s portrait is therefore less a balanced account of a person than a vivid expression of distrust toward someone seen as flirtatious and manipulative.
