“Child of 25” suggests feeling newly born or inexperienced despite being an adult: the speaker is trying to take first steps into a different life. The “straw” and “roof of my mouth” make the lie feel like something lodged inside, difficult to speak or swallow; the image also echoes the saying “the last straw,” meaning a final burden that becomes too much. Being “on my knees” may mean prayer, surrender, or simply a position in which the speaker feels able to think clearly.

The lyrics leave the exact mistake and relationship unstated. The speaker’s remorse may be genuine, but the admission of past enjoyment complicates it: regret about the damage is not necessarily regret about the experience itself. Likewise, “I’m lost for words” and “nothing yet” suggest confusion rather than a clear judgment about who the speaker has become. The promise to do anything could express sincere commitment, desperation, or both.
