I deserve to get pissed
At least once or twice
ย
Joey's on the street again!
ย
Back in 1976
The Boontown Rats were playing in the basement of a hotel in Dublin
This was our regular gig
But we noticed a kid hanging around the band the whole time
Never said much, weird sort of guy
He stole a pair of Simon's sticks one day
And followed us around Ireland
And got into all the gigs by pretending he was the drummer in the band
Then for a few weeks he didn't show up
And we wondered what had happened to him
And we said, "Anybody seen Joey?"
Some people said he'd been murdered
Some people said he just left the country
Some said he'd been killed, some said he got away
Like a lot of people in those days in Ireland
This is the story of Joey
He's on the street again
Sooner or later when the dawn was breaking
The joint was jumping and the walls were shaking
Joey sneaked in the back doorway
Pretending he was with the band, he never used to pay
He was not great draw at pulling the chicks
He used to lie against the wall like he was holding up the bricks
By all the things that guy used to do to get his kicks
He was a legend in his lifetime with the neighborhood kids
They said, "Joey did this and Joey did that"
The guy was crazy, what a crazy cat
Something strange would happen, trouble on the way
But trouble only means one thing
Joey is on the street again
He's on the street again
Joey grew older, he grew older without a cause
He got married and had some kids and had his brushes with the law
He settled down and got a job and said, "I'm leaving one day
I gotta hang loose so I'll take care while I'm away"
Now people said they'd seen him, they were nearly always wrong
'Cause no one knew how much he had when he got off for how long
So one day there came a rumor that was floating from the docks
Saying a crazy stranger had been found lying on the rocks
They said, "Joey was this and Joey was that"
The guy was crazy, what a crazy cat
And something strange had happened, trouble on the way
Trouble only means one thing
Joey is on the street again
He's on the street again
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!
ย
Ladies and gentlemen, on the bass guitar, Pete Rickett!
ย
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, oh
Oh, oh
When Joey moved away
He let the kids say, "I can't stay around here"
He said, "I'm moving out, I'm going away"
He said, "I'm leaving, I'm getting out"
He said, "I'm leaving, I'm going away, I'm going away, I'm going away"
He said, "I'm leaving, I'm leaving, I'm leaving, I'm leaving
Gonna go someplace where it doesn't stay
Away from the eyes so that I can't pay
Watch these guys from my hands, watch your watch and be safe
It's a straight out of brain living close to the brain
Look at that big wall grace and where some kid is spraying
Nobody could be bothered to hear again
Don't believe, don't believe it when they say I'm TV
There's no romance (no romance)
There's no romance (no romance)
There's no romance (no romance)
There's no romance (no romance)
There's no romance (no romance)
There's no romance (no romance)
There's no romance (no romance)
But Joey in the city, no, no, no!
No, no, no!
No, no, no, no!
No, no, no, no, no, no!
ย
Kick it!
ย
Kick it!
Oh yeah, oh yeah!
ย
Joey!
Come on back here again
Ooh, ooh, hey!
Ooh, we'll be waiting right here in the Roundhouse, Joey
Come back anytime you like
ย
Now, um, you heard about, uh...
You heard about bands being banned in different gigs?
You're looking at a band that was banned
From playing in an entire fucking country!
