Standing tall along the path
From schoolyards to infinity
Lie broken veins as power lines
They gush my bloody legacy
Last winter, a static rain
A few months from the field trip
I was tangled up in copper wire
And faded from childrens' memories
It never sings in headlines
But their parents drop receivers
Not "What?" and "When?" but "How, this young?"
While silent currents flood the street
That's how I dreamt it to have
Lived to tell the story of death
Now I spend nights awake
And days on my last breath
ย
Powerlines across the skyline
Wonder how I'm so powerless
Powerlines across the sky
Remind I'm here
ย
Ran past fields where nothing grows but silence
To carry existence in but its memory
Learning the shape of absence
To feel the current and never belong
Sparks flying like words unsaid
A 4-year-long "about to"
I will
I will
I will
For all the stones I left unturned and tables not set
For hiding in metaphors and fearing what words meant
Fresh wounds on a melody, hear
For effigies I built from vexed ashes in my lungs
For tasting only bitter in the passionfruit I shared with her
A birthmark on a heretic's shin
For square dancing wearingly to the gospel of death
For preaching a storm is coming when I'm its eye and breath ashore
Washing blood stains and regret
For disavowing God while embodying its wrath
For counting my steps by slaughtered lambs in the path
From my doorstep to eternity
For not treasuring vials of blood bonds and family
For not shedding a tear at my grandfather's eulogy
As his memory was swallowed by the weeds
For keeping friends away, for not being a peaceful chime
For barricading doorways for weeks at a time
As telephone wires forget my name
For fleeing and escaping any social situation
For fearing every face, and feeling something's out to get me
A whisper or a fence bending away
For humming to power lines, they merely sing along
For feeling this powerless chill to the bone
Through a skeleton I'm not sure I own
For all of the above, dare not barely forget
For memories of mine are thin, lest winds weep away
I eternally timelessness await
For all of the above, dare not ask what I meant
For not keeping track of time, I lay buried along the sand
Of this hourglass with glassy eyes I mend
For all of the above, dare just merely forgive
For memories of mine are thin, lest winds weep away
I eternally timelessness await
For all of the above, I'll bear this stone to death
For stumbling my words through the years I didn't plan
It's a forecast to remember
I promise one day you'll understand
