What sort of song do you sing when an angel
Has said a new world will be born in you?
That you should not fear now because you are favored
How do you believe unbelievable news?
That you'll bear his baby, the Son of the Most High
That you'll name him Jesus, oh how to reply?
Oh what sort of song do you sing?
What sort of song do you sing?
My soul praises the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God, my Savior
For he's been mindful of the humble estate of his servant
What sort of song can you possibly sing
When impossible prophecies come to your life?
How do you make music when someday this burden
Will give birth to sorrow and cut like a knife?
This beautiful baby will be born to die
To offer salvation, oh how to reply?
Oh what sort of song do you sing?
What sort of song do you sing?
From now on all the generations will call me blessed
For the Mighty One has done great things to me
His great mercy reaches out to all generations
His strong and mighty arm has scattered the vain and the proud
He's brought down mighty princes, but lifted up the lowly
And filled the hungry with good things
Because of his covenant love
