Part I
He went out for coffee
I am still in bed
The memory of the journey
Still plays out in my head
We flew over the border
And no one saw us go
My baby rides a dark horse
And his hair is white as snow
We set out in the morning
Three nights and days ago
Before the sun had risen
We crossed the canyon floor
We rode along the river
Deep into the night
My baby rides a dark horse
And keeps well out of sight
We slept out in the open
The stars our canopy
It gets cold in the dessert
But he stays close to me
Wrapped inside one blanket
Our limbs were welded one
My baby rides a dark horse
And his breath is warm
Part II
When we reached the plateau
Halfway on the second day
We rode towards the edge and
Watched it give away
He pointed out the entrance
Somewhere down along the deep
My baby rides a dark horse
And he shares it with me
We tied the ropes together
Slowly down we slipped
Along the red rock surface
Along that great abyss
And never was I frightened
Cause he was always near
My baby rides a dark horse
And tramples over fear
Somewhere in the cave he
Asked me to undress
And with my shirt he wiped off
An ancient wooden chest
Gleaming in the darkness
The stones gave off a light
My baby rides a dark horse
It shimmers with delight
Part III
When the moon had risen
We climbed out again
Our bodies brave like newborns
Glistening our skin
It's all downhill from here babe
He shouted from below
My baby rides a dark horse
And he knows where to go
Racing down that mountain
With ungodly speed
We saw the third day dawning
Upon the valley sweet
Just before the border
We found the slanting tree
My baby rides a dark horse
He lets her roam free
