Okay, y'all, this is the situation
I was supposed to sing this song at my mother's funeral
They were gonna play the record and I was gonna sing along with it
But of course, I was a little too choked up to sing
So, I'm a little bit better now, I have a better understanding of everything
And I think I'm able to do it now, so we're gonna try to do it like this
(Yeah, I said, "My battle is fought")
(And this old victory has been won)
(When I get through fighting that fight)
(I'm gonna lay down this old sword and shield)
(Yes, in the morning, when I rise)
(I'll shake the dust from my feet)
(Wipe the tears from my eyes)
(What a day, they tell me, "It's gonna be bye bye")
I don't have many words to say
It's been over a year since you left that day
I'm trying to be everything
You said I could and would be
This little world we live in
Is plagued with fear
I tried to find a guy
Like you said I should when you were here
I think of you
And somehow
Problems
They don't seem so hard
It's all you endured in your life
You are
And if I cried a million times
You must have died inside a million times
From the pain
Oh, mama, I miss you
But I know He made you whole again
(I, I, oh, oooh, oh)
This one's for you, girl
(I, I, oh, oooh, oh)
My Shirley girl
(I, I, oh, oooh, oh)
Mama, we miss you
(I, I, oh, oooh, oh)
And I want you all to know
That I'm trying
To everyone here in my heart
I'm trying
And I could never regret you
Sweet baby
Yes
It's so hard
Trying to raise a boy to a man
I think of you
And somehow
I can make it through another day
'Cause I want the best for your life
And if I tried a million times
I couldn't find a love closer to get
Oh, mama's little angels
You're the reason why
(I, I, oh, oooh, oh)
This one's for you, boy
(I, I, oh, oooh, oh)
My little angels
(I, I, oh, oooh, oh)
My savior
Just know, my love is yours
Grew up in the home of a black woman
Raised of the twenty-third Psalm and that ass whoopin'
Ye, though I walk through the shadow of the valley of death
Least you watch me take my first baby step
Taught me life, introduced the whole concept
When even simplicity was complex
When the electricity was off, you light the mood
We played hide and seek in the dark
I've never seen faith like you had
Even when the world shake
Mountains don't seem to wanna move this bad
Teacher Moses being promoted
Queen of New Orleans
My mama, my dawg, my world
Let me talk my sh-
Name a nigga with a mama like this
Rockin' a show
Then come back with the angst
That creates the wave
You can't replace as we passed the states
We're fastest, it's the family
How you maintain your sanity?
Pray to the Most High
Smoke till you're most high
Sing to the whole world
Dream through them brown eyes
Laugh with your homegirls
Cry in your down time
Right till the pain stopped
Jam to it, cream and ice
Drive like you live once
Live like you don't die
Curse like a sailor
Say what's on your mind
Say, a hundred times
Say, a hundred times
God got it, God got it, God got it
I got it, I get it, I'm livin'
Fifteen years later, mommy, you're underrated
I can't articulate it
I don't know how we made it
I just know that we made it
I just know that I'm your favorite son
I love you, ma
If you cry at the mean times
Then you rised to many times
And I would know 'cause I'd have seen
And we're still beside you
High five, and if you blowin' ashes
You were high, you was a fiend
You the Cognac sippin'
Coldest woman I done ever known
Kept it pimpin'
Never needed no nigga when the rent past due
Lights off, when we didn't know what to do
Gotta move 'cause we 'bout to get it bigger
You kept faith, made a way, independently
As an artist, as a mom, as a sibling
You're the man of my life and the woman of my dreams
Everything in-between, you're a motherf- queen
You deserve roses, yeah, roses, sea full of roses
You a Moses, part that sea, let them see you was chosen
Taught me how to fight, see to me, you're a soldier
Tell 'em, get it right, you a G
Who's trying it with the lioness?
One of a kind
Anybody wish you harm, I find 'em
You been my best friend since two or three
You still my best friend at 23
Who love me more than you love me?
I love you more than I love me
One of earth's angels, crown is the halo
Love you
I think we got enough
