They're selling the house where we used to live
That old thing still leans like a ship
Two girls in our twenties, tryna pinch pennies
With that street corner living room set
We never watered the lawn and we pissed off the neighbors
But the rent always got paid
Waxing nostalgic, I wanted to tell you
You're the only one who can relate
I'm just checking in to see how you've been
I was thinking about you today
It's been so long since we really talked
Is everything ok?
So call when you can
I'm just checking in
We'd hold court in that kitchen, nothing off limits
Secrets paired with boxed wine
Until they're on the table lay the sum of ourselves
Right along with the forks and the knives
The last time I saw you on the Fourth of July
I didn't know you were in town
How was the drive, Yeah, the weather's been nice
Like a good wine had been watered down
I'm just checking in to see how you've been
I was thinking about you today
It's been so long since we really talked
Is everything ok?
So call when you can
I'm just checking in
I was angry with you for a long time
Was it easy for you to walk away?
What did I say? What did I do wrong?
Maybe you're busy with work and the kids
And I've tangled this mess in my head
Or maybe we've changed since those 10th Street days
And there's nothing left to be said
I'm just checking in to see how you've been
I was thinking about you today
It's been so long since we really talked
Is everything ok?
So call when you can
'Cause I miss my friend
I'm just checking in
