Movin' On

The lyrics portray a music scene that feels both exciting and exploitative. The repeated “we’re moving on” sounds like a push to keep going, but it may also suggest that the scene rushes forward without giving people time to think or be themselves. The mood is energetic and mocking rather than simply celebratory.

Several images make the world seem strange and artificial. The “gourmet man” with “aluminium lungs” appears to consume whatever he can, so he may represent someone who feeds on the music scene. “Sticky eyes and sticky bones” suggests a grimy, uncomfortable atmosphere, while the list of black hair dye, tattoos, piercings, and fake tan presents a ready-made image for joining the band. These details make belonging seem like adopting a costume.

The refrain that there is “always further to go” can sound motivating: even when things are bad, life continues. But it can also feel bleak, as if there is no real escape from decline or pressure. The lyrics do not spell out one clear target for their satire; they may be poking fun at performers, fans, the music business, or the scene as a whole.
