The marble is cold beneath me
Angels hovering above
Each carved by hand
I don't understand
How a creature like man can create
So much hate and statued love
Somehow I ended up here
God I don't even believe in but I was near
The gates to the garden
When they said they weren't open
I was surprised that my eyes filled
My throat choked back tears
I don't think that sin exists
But I've missed something easier
So now I just sit on the steps of the cathedral
I walked to the archway
But couldn't make it through the doors
So now I just sit on the steps of the cathedral
And I think about praying even though I've never prayed before
The wind is so soft around me
Like the kiss of a spirit I can't name
Watching strangers pass by
Take a picture
While I still as the stained glass panes
Two hundred years have remained the same
Bless this heavenly day
Is that what you say
I'm not religious
Isn't it just the same
To not know any verses
But hope that something somewhere
Will take care of this little girls soul
I guess in the end that's why we pretend to know it all
So now I just sit on the steps of the cathedral
I didn't go in but almost made it through the doors
So now I just sit on the steps of the cathedral
And I put my hands together even though I have never prayed before
And I squeeze the rail
Stumble up the stairs
To the entrance
And I shut my eyes
Tilt my chin to the skies
And imagine
That the candles are glowing
It looks like it's snowing fire
And despite my beliefs
For a moment that's brief
I've desire to enter
Oh now I just sit on the steps of the cathedral
I walked to the archway but couldn't make it through the doors
So now I just sit on the steps of the cathedral
And I'm praying
I'm praying
I'm praying
I'm praying
I'm praying
I'm praying
I'm praying
I'm praying
I'm praying
Like I never prayed before
