Hopelessly Addicted

The speaker describes a sudden change in how they see someone they already love. At first, they seem surprised by their own feelings, as if they have only just recognized what was there all along. The mood develops from wonder and self-doubt into confident affection and a wish for the relationship to last.

Several images make this change easier to picture. “Like the clouds had somehow lifted” suggests that confusion or uncertainty has cleared, allowing the speaker to see the loved one differently. Being “entwined” means closely joined, like things woven together; here it expresses a hope for lasting intimacy. “Hopelessly addicted” is not necessarily a literal claim about addiction: it is an intense way of saying the speaker feels unable to resist or stop wanting this person. “Chemically reacted” also presents attraction as powerful and instinctive.

The lyrics leave open why the speaker’s feelings become so clear “suddenly.” Perhaps something has changed in the relationship, or perhaps the speaker has simply noticed what was true all along. The repeated admission “I don’t know why” keeps the feeling somewhat mysterious, while the promise that the couple will “survive” change shows hope rather than certainty. The song’s language is romantic and heightened, so its claims of forever may express a wish more than a guarantee.
