Numb

The lyrics describe someone facing repeated frustration and feeling close to losing control. At first, the speaker sounds defiant, treating life’s difficulties as a challenge. As the song continues, that confidence gives way to exhaustion: they want to “shake it off” and stop caring. Going “numb” seems like a way to escape feelings that have become overwhelming, though the repeated questions suggest that the speaker may still want to be understood.

“Life is a battlefield” compares ordinary struggles to a fight, while “what don’t kill [you] only makes you strong” expresses the idea that hardship can build resilience. “Forever is a long, long…” emphasizes how unbearable a repeated problem can feel when it seems endless. The question about doing “the same old thing” while expecting change points to a familiar idea: repeating the same actions may keep producing the same results.

The meaning of “numb” is not entirely clear. It could describe emotional self-protection—letting go so pain matters less—or a troubling loss of feeling. The speaker says they can feel someone, then asks whether that person can feel it too. This contrast leaves open whether numbness is a personal choice, a response to another person, or a shared condition.
