Alles Wat Ademt

The lyrics present peace as both urgent and fragile. They begin by describing peace as far away, even close to home, where weapons are still active. Fear has changed how people live, while powerful groups threaten one another. The repeated wish that everything alive may exist in peace turns the song from a description of danger into a plea for people to choose cooperation.

Several images make this plea clear. “Power plays with power” suggests a dangerous contest between opposing forces, where ordinary lives may be at risk. The threat of “hell” conveys the frightening consequences each side promises the other. By contrast, “everything that breathes” is a broad image for all living beings, not just people on one side. The line about understanding a language, however strange, suggests that human connection can cross differences.

The lyrics do not explain who is responsible for the conflict or what specific peace would require. Their message is therefore more moral than political: fear and rivalry can lead to destruction, while peace is something people can give and build together. The final lines in different languages reinforce the idea of a shared hope, though the song leaves open whether understanding alone can overcome the forces keeping people apart.
