Telling her to “improve her sight” extends this idea, as if she simply cannot see what is obvious to him. The suggestions that she could be picking roses or painting the roof are odd, comic alternatives that imply she is avoiding him by keeping busy.

The ending, with her head “in the ground” and calling for winter, suggests withdrawal or refusal to respond, but these images are exaggerated and open to interpretation.
