Una storia importante

The speaker reflects on having avoided a serious relationship by making excuses and choosing independence. After meeting many people and having many short-lived connections, he now wants something deeper with one particular person. His longing grows, but the relationship remains uncertain: he asks for honesty while admitting that he is also afraid and unable to free himself from his restless thoughts.

Several images express this tension. Open hands suggest a willingness to welcome the other person, while their closed hands suggest self-protection. “Put your eyes inside mine” is an intimate way of asking for direct, sincere communication. The repeated wish to be with the other person conveys strong desire, but the line about life disturbing him hints that his dissatisfaction may come from more than romance alone.

The song can be read as a plea for mutual commitment, but it does not present the speaker as completely confident or blameless. He admits that fear may belong to both of them, and wonders whether “we still have to grow” is a genuine reason for hesitation or merely an excuse. The other person’s pattern of hiding and returning leaves their feelings unclear. Thus, the song balances hope for closeness with doubt about whether either person is ready to make the relationship work.
