Lyrics
In '85 he was 10
when his Grandpa passed away
No more pain ... inside
And the last thing he heard him say -
"Son, I've done all I can do to pave your way.
Spent the best years in love now I get to see your Grandma's face
So give me your word and I'll give you mine 'til your dying day"
I'll fight off the bad if you only said I'll be there when you pray
I'll be your rock when you need one.
Promise me you won't cry when I'm gone
I am the chill in the wind when it's colder.
I'll be right there by your side ... like a Soldier...
In '05 he loss his life left his wife just to make us safe
No more sleep... less nights wondering if she would see his face
And as they flew him home with a flag and a note on his chest -
She started to cry and there in that ink here's what it said
I'll be your rock when you need one
Promise me you won't cry when gone
I am the chill in the wind when it's cold out.
I'll be right by your side ... like a Soldier...
He never knew she was due
And now his baby is five years old
A little man like his Dad
A little image from long, long ago
And one day she took ... him to see his Daddy that now lays to rest
And as she cries, the little boy grabbed her hand and said
Mommy Dad's right there on your shoulder
Promise that you won't cry anymore
He said to tell you while I'm getting older
I'll be right by your side ... little Soldier...
