Lyrics meaning

The song follows a speaker in a noisy bar who is trying to face damage caused in a relationship. At first, the speaker admits that apologies have not repaired things, but still offers to help the other person get home. The repeated celebration of being young sounds joyful, yet it sits alongside regret and uncertainty. By the end, the speaker also needs someone’s help, making the night feel both exciting and vulnerable.

“Set the world on fire” is an exaggerated image of shining brightly or making the night unforgettable, not a literal plan to cause harm. “The holes in my apologies” suggests that the speaker’s apologies are incomplete or unconvincing. To “carry someone home” can mean physically supporting a tired or drunk person, but it also suggests caring for someone when they are struggling.

The lyrics leave the relationship’s future unclear. The speaker seems to want to make amends, but recognizes that the other person may not depend on them alone. The moon and choir add a faintly hopeful, almost dreamlike feeling, while the absent angels suggest that no miraculous rescue is coming. The song can therefore be heard as a celebration of youth and friendship, but also as a messy moment of remorse, mutual need, and uncertain reconciliation.
