Nothing Matters

The speaker describes an intense attraction that seems to bring new understanding of another person’s feelings. The relationship develops from desire and excitement into a promise of trust and emotional closeness. By the end, the speaker places their heart and sense of home in the other person’s care, while insisting that outside judgment does not matter.

The images of a highway, headlights, and a Chevrolet create a feeling of movement and escape: the couple seem to be heading somewhere together, away from ordinary concerns. “Putting all my bets on you” is an idiom meaning the speaker is taking a risk by trusting this person and committing to them. The phrase “like nothing matters” suggests surrendering to the moment, not necessarily believing that nothing in life has value.

The lyrics mix physical passion with tenderness, so the relationship can be read as both sensual and emotionally serious. “I hope they never understand us” may express a wish to keep the bond private, or a feeling that outsiders would not accept or grasp it. The comparisons between the pair are vivid but not clearly explained; they may suggest resemblance, contrast, or simply the excitement of naming unusual images. The song leaves open whether this love is secure or a daring escape from the world.
