Overkill

The lyrics create a horror story about a supernatural killer who returns despite supposedly having died years earlier. The growing number of victims makes the threat feel unstoppable. The mood then shifts from describing the killer to asking who or what “Overkill” is, before warning listeners that they may meet him too.

Several images build this frightening atmosphere: riding through a storm on a galloping horse suggests an old-fashioned, ominous arrival; the “three sixes” mark connects the figure with the Devil; and “buries the cross” implies that evil has overcome Christian protection. “Like father like son” usually means a child resembles a parent, but here it hints at inherited evil or a repeating curse.

The speaker’s question, “Who can tell me who I am?”, leaves room for uncertainty: the killer may be a distinct demonic figure, or the speaker may be identifying himself with the violence he describes. The lyrics use exaggerated horror imagery and repeated slogans, so “Overkill” can also suggest violence taken to an extreme, not only a literal supernatural being.
