You know, I come in one mornin'
To my girl's house 'bout half-past four
She got a chair, knocked me right back out the door
She comes to raise the sand with me
Just 'bout a spoonful
I never knowed such disturbment raised before in my life
Just 'bout a spoonful
I come in one morning just about half-past nine
She got the biggest chair in the house
Tried her best to knock me blind
She'd raised a sanding on me again, just 'bout a spoonful
Stamp me on m'head, say, "If you wanna get along with me
Gimme my spoonful"
Come in one night just about half-past ten
Stuck my key in the door, not clear, couldn't get it in
She's on inside, stamp me on m'head by the spoonful
She had the whole neighborhood stirred up
Just by the spoonful
Uh-well, I come in one evenin' just to get my dinner
She got so bad on my hand I tell herโ
Until I had to stick my sword in her
Raisin' so much sand with my just by the spoonful
Never know so much devilry before in my life
Just by the spoonful
I come in one evenin', just got my pay
Throwed my pocketbook in her lap
She throwed it back at me, said, "Go your way"
She didn't want no money
She said, "I want you just to give me my spoonful"
"You ain't gon' get along with me
'Til you give me my spoonful"
ย
Come in one evenin' to go downtown
She got a smoothin' iron and
Knocked me down to the ground
Started raisin' sand with me again by the spoonful
I know no more of the comforts, oh, in my life
Just by the spoonful
I come in tired one night, hungry and sleepy as I could be
She got a kettle of water, tried to scald the fool outta me
Started the same thing again about a spoonful
"If you want a get-along-Minnie in this house, man
You better give me my spoonful"
ย
Hey-yeah
Spoonful, that's all

Huh-uh-uh
