Uneasy Rider

The final idea of going to Los Angeles “via Omaha” is a humorous way of saying he may take a very long detour to avoid that route.

The song’s humor comes from the narrator’s quick thinking, but the situation is not entirely light: he faces a real threat and acts out of fear. His later chase makes him seem reckless as well as clever. The story may invite listeners to laugh at the chaos and at the group’s readiness to believe a wild accusation, without making the narrator a straightforward hero.
