The future was a hopeful dream
Of flying cars and moonbase teams
We'd conquer stars, we'd end all pain
We'd build a utopian domain
The TV said we'd live up there
With robot butlers and clean air
We left the 20th century's gates
Towards a future we still await
They said we'd be soaring above the streets
But all we do now is look at spreadsheets
While that future seems to get further every day
We were promised jetpacks
We got Uber Shuttle instead
They reinvented the god damned bus
And put surge pricing on our heads
The future's here and its depressingly bleak
A billionaire on Mars next week
While we're left fighting for gig economy scraps
The dystopia is here, we're just watching the collapse
They said tech would set us free
But it just made new monopolies
You'll own nothing, you'll be happy
Living in a micro-apartment in Cincinnati
They solved the "problem" of a free ride
By beta testing their shitty tech statewide
Margins keep increasing while society gets worse
I swear to god we're "innovating" in reverse
They said we'd conquer time and space
Now we're all trapped in the gig rat race
While that future seems to get further every day
We were promised jetpacks
We got Uber Shuttle instead
Those Dickheads reinvented the bus
By putting surge pricing on our heads
The future's here and its depressingly bleak
A billionaire on Mars next week
While we're left fighting for gig economy scraps
The dystopia is here, we're just watching the collapse
Where were you when the future fell?
How long will we be saying farewell
To that promised tomorrow
Optimism replaced by sorrow
Are you depressed? Do you want to chat?
Well don't worry, there's a new AI for that...
We were promised jetpacks
We got Uber Shuttle instead
They reinvented the fucking bus
And put surge pricing on our heads
The future's here and its depressingly bleak
A billionaire on Mars next week
While we're left fighting for gig economy scraps
The dystopia is here, we're just watching the collapse
