Lyrics meaning

The speaker repeatedly faces practical troubles: losing sunlight, a place to live, food, and access to money. Yet each time, he says these losses matter little because he has an appointment with someone he loves. The mood is playful and defiant, while the repeated refrain makes the beloved seem more important than comfort or security.

Several images turn ordinary needs into romantic language. “The light I prefer” is the other person’s eyes, suggesting their gaze matters more than the sun. Calling the beloved’s frilled dress his preferred “home” makes clothing stand for closeness and shelter. The “menu” he prefers is the flesh of their neck: an exaggerated, sensual image of desire, not a literal meal. “Your heart of amadou” compares the beloved’s heart to a soft, easily ignited material, perhaps suggesting warmth or tenderness.

The song can be heard as a comic celebration of love that makes hardship easier to bear. But the speaker’s dismissal of every material concern may also sound reckless: affection does not actually solve eviction, debt, or hunger. The refrain could express sincere devotion, playful bravado, or both. The lyrics leave open whether this is a lasting commitment or a spirited moment in which love feels like enough.
