Hello there boys and girls
This is your old friend Gene Autry
I'm going to sing an old Kentucky mountain song
That I think you all like
On top of Old Smokey
All covered with snow
I lost my true lover
For a-courtin' so slow
For courtin's a pleasure
And parting is grief
And a false hearted lover
Is worse than a thief
A thief he will rob you
And take what you have
But a false hearted lover
Will lead you to the grave
She'll hug you and kiss you
And tell you more lies
Than cross ties on a railroad
Or stars in the skies
I'll go back to Old Smokey
All covered with snow
Where I lost my true lover
For a-courtin' so slow
