Xanadu

The lyrics describe arriving in a dazzling place where love and a long-held dream seem to become real. At first, Xanadu feels distant and almost impossible to reach; then the singers celebrate being there together. The mood moves from wonder and uncertainty toward joy, closeness, and a sense of permanence.

The “million lights” suggest a bright, exciting spectacle, while calling someone “a shooting star” compares them to something beautiful and rare. “It takes your breath and leaves you blind” is an exaggerated way to say the place is overwhelming: its beauty can amaze someone so much that they can hardly take it in. The repeated idea that a dream “came through” means that something wished for has finally happened.

Xanadu may be understood as a real place in the song’s imagined world, but it also works as a symbol of an ideal shared life or a dream fulfilled through love. “Eternally” and “everlasting” express the speakers’ feeling that their happiness will last forever; they need not be taken as literal promises.
