Young kid fishing with his Dad on the river
Six years old, he was starting to shiver
Rain coming in, they hadn't got a single bite
Boy says, "Dad, there ain't no fishing here"
He just smiles and sips on his beer
Right about then, there was a tug at the end of the line
He said, "Fishing's just like everything you'll do
Once you start, you've got to see it through"
And finish what you started
There's a job to do
Gonna come a time when people depend on you
Finish what you started
Even when you're broken-hearted
Son, l know you'll make me proud of you
Finish what you started
He was 23 when he first saw her
Head over heals for a rich man's daughter
Her father didn't want to lose her in the life
His Dad said son, "Go out and get her
If you want her to love you, you've got to let her
There's no point in giving up without a fight"
He said, "Love's just like everything you'll do
Once you fall, you've gotta see it through"
And finish what you started
There's a lot to do
Gonna come a time when she'll depend on you
Finish what you started
Even when you're broken-hearted
Son, l know you'll make me proud of you
Finish what you started
Just a few years later, celebrating their first child
Another generation of fishermen arrives
A grandpa holds his grandson with tears in his eyes
He said, "You stick to the plan, son, it's gonna turn out right"
So finish what you started
There's a lot to do
There's a whole wide world now
Waiting out there for you
Finish what you started
Even when you're broken-hearted
Son, l know you'll make me proud of you
Finish what you started
Young kid fishing with his Dad on the river
Six years old, he was starting to shiver
Right about then, there was a tug at the end of the line
