Lyrics meaning

The speaker describes acting like someone else to satisfy another personโ€™s expectations. At first, pretending seems to help them fit in, but it also creates a false image that the other person mistakes for the real one. The speaker becomes increasingly frustrated and wants to leave, reclaim their independence, and accept being alone. The repeated insistence that there is โ€œno turning backโ€ gives the decision a sense of urgency and finality.

โ€œBend the truthโ€ means to distort or hide what is real. โ€œTake back my lifeโ€ suggests regaining control after feeling shaped by someone else. The phrase โ€œthe very worst part of you is meโ€ is striking: it may mean the speaker has absorbed traits or behaviors they dislike in the other person, or that the relationship brings out something painful in them. โ€œPushed asideโ€ can sound like a wish to be rejected, perhaps because direct separation feels difficult.

The lyrics do not make the relationshipโ€™s history fully clear. The other person may have taught the speaker how they โ€œought to be,โ€ but the speaker also admits to pretending and to saying things that made the other person run away. So the song can be read not simply as blaming someone else, but as expressing conflict and shared hurt: the speaker wants freedom, yet recognizes that their own actions have helped create the distance.
