I'm living proof
Of what the mercies of God can do
If you knew me then
You'd believe me now
(He turned my whole life upside down)
That's just what the mercy of God can do
I know people see you cry, they think you're sad
I promise I'm not emotionally unstable
You can tell that I almost evicted yesterday
Because Jesus has given me such feels
Touch, mercy, so full and rich with meaning
And I mean it too
'Cause the funny thing is, you think that with Jesus, on your side
He's against the people who hurt you
What He did for me was more than defend me
He set me free from unforgiveness, from anger, from self-hate
And He gave me an identity
And that's what the mercy of God can do
So I'm sorry I couldn't get through the first verse
'Cause it just hit me right in the face
It really did
Oh man, but I had to share, because our word really tells us
Who Jesus is
And He has so many names, that when I was getting to know Him
I didn't know that I was getting a father
I didn't know that I was getting a brother
I thought I was, you know
He was gonna show me something I ain't ever seen before
He, they call Him the Everlasting Father
Everlasting
I had no need or want for anything
I'm full and complete in Christ
And to be here, it brings me to tears
Because you live a life not knowing
No one will affirm it for you, nobody will pay attention to you
But He keeps speaking the same things
He's so good
I have to cry about it, I'm sorry
(Don't be sorry, thank you)
I'm living proof
Of what the mercy of God can do, huh
If you knew me then
You'd believe me now
He turned my whole life upside down
He took the old and He made it new
That's just what the mercy of God can do
And now I'm alive to tell the story
How I've overcome
It's His goodness and mercy
And the power of His blood
I'm so glad that my freedom
Wasn't based on what I've done
But His goodness and mercy
And the power of the blood
(Oh, I got 'em, I got 'em)
Thought I deserved (I did)
To be six feet beneath the earth
For all the things I've done
All the things I've said
The choices made that I regret
I would still be lost
Without the mercy of God
Now I'm alive to tell the story
Of how I've overcome
It's His goodness and mercy
And the power of His blood
I'm so glad that my freedom
Wasn't based on what I've done
It's His goodness and mercy
And the power of the blood, oh
Thank you for Your mercy (yeah)
Your mercy
Was the cross meant for me
That my Savior carried
Oh, I've been set free
By the mercy of God
Was the grave meant for me
Where my sin lay buried
Oh, I've been redeemed
By the mercy of God
Was the cross meant for me
That my Savior carried
Now I've been made free
By the mercy of God
Was the grave meant for me
Where my sin lay buried
Now I stand redeemed
By the mercy of God
Now I'm alive to tell the story
How I've overcome
It's His goodness and mercy
And the power of His blood
I'm so glad that my freedom
Wasn't based on what I've done
But His goodness and mercy
And the power of the blood
It's His goodness and mercy
And the power of the blood
It's His goodness and mercy
And the power of the blood
His goodness and mercy
And the power of the blood (oh Jesus)
Goodness and mercy
And the power of the blood
We sing, Jesus, Jesus
You make the darkness tremble
Jesus, Jesus
You silence fear
Oh, Jesus, Jesus
You make the darkness tremble
Oh, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
You silence fear
Your name is the light that the shadows can't deny
Your name cannot be overcome
Your name is alive forever lifted high
Your name cannot be overcome (Jesus, Jesus, Jesus)
Your name is the light that the shadows can't deny
Your name cannot be overcome
Your name is alive forever lifted high
Your name cannot be overcome
So we sing, Jesus
Jesus, Jesus
You make the darkness tremble
Jesus, Jesus
You silence fear
Oh, Jesus, Jesus (Jesus, we love you, Father)
You make the darkness tremble
Jesus, Jesus
