There's a new man in the White House
The USA is proud and strong again
We cheered our people home at last
From fourteen months of prison in Iran
The TV went to Saturn's rings
And found there's something new under the sun
But honey, I found you
The highlight of '81
All the papers missed the biggest story of the year
Not a solitary word about me and you
The headlines didn't even say how time stood still
When I laid down beside you and you said you loved me too
The baseball strike was over
And once again the umpire said play ball
The royal couple tied the knot in London
And the whole world watched it all
The Raiders won the Super Bowl
And the shuttle put the Russians on the run
But I found you
The highlight of '81
All the papers missed the biggest story of the year
Not a solitary word about me and you
The headlines didn't even say how time stood still
When I laid down beside you and you said you loved me too
A lot of great things came about this year
And some may fade in years to come
But honey, never you
The highlight of '81
