Lyrics meaning
The speaker begs God to let her keep her beloved for a little longer. At first, she asks for days together, simply to love each other, say so, and build memories. As the song continues, the time she requests shrinks from months to one month and then to “a little” more. This makes the plea feel increasingly urgent. Her love is intense, but so is her awareness that their time together may be ending.
The repeated “Mon Dieu” (“My God”) sounds like an appeal to someone with power to grant her wish. “Let him fill my life” suggests that the beloved brings meaning and fullness, rather than merely occupying her time. The contrast between “illuminate” and “suffer” is also important: the time they have could bring happiness, pain, or both. The speaker asks for the chance to experience it anyway.
The lyrics do not explain why the beloved may be leaving or how much time they truly have. The request might reflect an approaching separation, or simply the speaker’s fear that love cannot last. Her admission “even if I am wrong” suggests she knows her plea may be unreasonable, yet cannot stop making it. The ending leaves that need unresolved: she is still asking, with no promise that her wish will be granted.
