St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)

The speaker describes moving from youthful confidence into hardship and loneliness, then finding the strength to continue. The mood shifts from warning and struggle to determination and excitement: he believes a new future is possible and feels ready to claim it.

Several images make this resolve vivid. “A new horizon” suggests fresh opportunities, while an eagle flying higher represents freedom and ambition. Being a “prisoner” who is trying to “break free” is likely not literal; it suggests feeling trapped by circumstances or limitations. The “pair of wheels” points to travel and forward movement, giving the speaker a practical way to pursue that future.

“St. Elmo’s fire” becomes a symbol of inner energy, hope, or inspiration because it is described as burning inside him. The lyrics also connect motion with a personal turning point: the speaker feels that “my time is now.” It is not fully clear what has caused his pain or what destination he is heading toward, so the song can be heard broadly as a story of perseverance. Its confidence is powerful, though the need to keep pushing may also hint at how difficult the journey has been.
