Connection

The lyrics describe a connection forming between people amid uncertainty, disappointment, and change. The speaker sounds skeptical and emotionally guarded, asking who would care and whether anyone wants a life like this. Yet the repeated idea that a “vital connection” is made suggests that, despite confusion and setbacks, something meaningful still links them. The mood shifts between resignation and a stubborn recognition of closeness.

Several images make the lyrics feel like a game of chance. “Riding on any wave” suggests going along with whatever opportunity or feeling appears, while “the luck you crave” hints at hoping for a fortunate break. The “heart” and “spade” may mix love with the playing-card suit, or evoke a spade as a tool for digging; either way, the speaker admits not understanding how the connection happens. “Another heart has made the trade” and “the last card is played” similarly suggest risk, exchange, or a final move.

The repeated “forget it” can sound like an attempt to dismiss pain, but its repetition also makes the hurt seem hard to leave behind. “Brought me ’round” and “brought you down” may suggest people being pulled into a situation and then let down by it, though the lyrics do not specify who is responsible. The connection could be romantic, emotional, or simply a bond between people facing the same uncertain circumstances.
