Lyrics meaning

The speaker describes a world that feels dead and hopeless, and seems to believe that both they and the people around them have helped create this situation. At first, the repeated offer of their heart sounds like surrender to people who have drained them. Later, though, the speaker sounds almost defiant: they invite more trouble and say they may even enjoy the chaos. The mood shifts from exhaustion toward a fierce, uneasy acceptance.

โ€œCut off my wingsโ€ suggests losing freedom, while โ€œvampiresโ€ presents other people as those who take the speakerโ€™s energy or love. The funeral, ghosts, and lack of a pulse make the world seem emotionally lifeless. โ€œRain on my paradeโ€ means ruin something one hoped would go well; here, the speaker asks for that disruption, as if feeling pain is better than feeling nothing. The line about the rain pouring intensifies the idea that troubles arrive all at once.

The title and repeated claim that โ€œweโ€™re doomedโ€ sound final, but the lyrics also contain signs of continued life: the speaker is awake, says they will carry on, and imagines coming home. The Devil and the โ€œreceiptโ€ may be a dark joke about trying to escape responsibility or consequences. It is unclear whether the speaker welcomes the mess because they have made peace with it, or because they feel too overwhelmed to resist.
