Slow And Low

The lyrics are mainly a playful invitation to dance and enjoy the music. The repeated phrase “slow and low” describes a relaxed, steady beat, while commands such as “let yourself go” encourage listeners to stop holding back. The mood is confident and humorous, building from an easygoing groove into excitement about performing and getting the crowd moving.

The “bugaloo flu” is a joke: the dance craze is treated like an illness, but the singers make clear that no doctor is needed—just music. “Like a volcano I’ll erupt” compares their energetic performance to a sudden burst of force, even though the beat itself is calm. “Get off the wall” is an idiom meaning to stop standing aside and join the party. Together, these images playfully contrast a steady rhythm with lively movement.

The song mixes dance instructions, boasts about the group, and silly wordplay, so it is not telling a serious story. “Slow and low” can be taken literally as advice about the tempo, but it also suggests moving with ease and confidence rather than rushing. The lyrics celebrate both control and release: the music stays unhurried, while the dancers and crowd are invited to respond freely.
