Lyrics
Last Monday afternoon while I was sleeping
Neath the Shade of a big willow tree
Two men tied me up as they took me to the pen
They said The Man That Killed Susan Tally looks just like me
Well ole Susan was the daughter of the mayor
And he said that dirty savage killer can't be free
But the woman who watched her die from the bullet between the eyes
Said The Man That Killed Susan Tally looks just like me
Well I screamed and hollered to let me go
I said fellers your mistaken let me be
Last night I was on the town with my future bride to be
But The Man That Killed Susan Tally looks just like me
Well they threw in the Monroe county jail
And they locked me up tight with that prison key
I turned and told the sheriff you can go straight to hell
But The Man That Killed Susan Tally looks just like me
Into the courtroom I did go
And the judge said son what is your plea
Not Guilty I yelled just before the gavel fell
But The Man That Killed Susan Tally looks just like me
Up on the platform of the gallows
The preacher said the lord will set me free
But soon I'll be in the ground in a grave six-feet deep
For a man that killed Susan Tally that looks just like me
Well now I am lying neath the dirt
Neath the shade of a big willow tree
They buried the wrong man and they'll be killing once again
Cause The Man That Killed Susan Tally looks just like me
Yes The Man That Killed Susan Tally looks just like me
