Lyrics meaning
The speaker remembers a passionate relationship that brought comfort and made him feel fortunate. Now that the other person has left, he describes himself as changed: once powerful and full of feeling, he is now emotionally quiet and depleted. The repeated contrast between past intensity and present emptiness gives the song its sorrowful, regretful mood.
The sea images show how the lover’s kisses could feel both gentle and overwhelming: like a calm sea, but also like a sudden wave. Calling the lover “my medicine” suggests that their presence helped him forget painful memories, though it may also hint that he depended on the relationship for relief. The “volcano apagado,” or extinguished volcano, is the central metaphor: his former passion has gone dormant after the lover flew away from his “nest” and his side.
The song presents the speaker’s loss through his own memories and self-description, so it does not tell us everything about the relationship. His warning that he was “sin” and that old days would return may suggest he feared hurting the lover or repeating troubles from his past. But the lyrics leave those troubles unexplained. The volcanic image could mean he has lost his passion, or that it remains inside him, temporarily quiet.
