Lyrics meaning
The lyrics present a speaker who is annoyed by a famous performerโs insults and constant criticism. The speaker says this person acts as if he is always right and refuses to back down, then answers him with the repeated challenge, โLook whoโs talking.โ The mood is confrontational and mocking, though the repeated refrain also gives it a playful, chant-like feel.
โLook whoโs talkingโ is an idiom used to point out hypocrisy: the person criticizing others may be guilty of the same faults. Calling the pop star an โopportunist with one hit songโ is another attack, suggesting that his success is limited and perhaps undeserved. The phrase โI and Iโ refers to the speaker and others, while โMe no like the way him chatโ uses informal speech to express strong dislike of how the person speaks.
The lyrics do not explain exactly what the pop star said, or whether the speakerโs accusations are fair. The refrain may be a clever comeback, but it does not prove that the speaker is right. The song can therefore be heard both as a complaint about arrogant criticism and as a personal verbal contest in which each side judges the other.
