Stood Up

The singer is waiting for someone who does not arrive, and he suspects she has made other plans. He feels hurt and left out, especially because this has happened before. “Stood up” means being left waiting by someone who fails to meet you, usually without warning. “Broken-hearted” describes deep sadness caused by love or rejection. The singer imagines that his girlfriend is “hav[ing] a ball,” an informal expression meaning she is enjoying herself, while he sits alone. These phrases sharpen the contrast between her imagined freedom and his loneliness.

The singer calls himself a “fool” for continuing to wait, but this may be more self-criticism than a clear decision to stop. His repeated complaints suggest that he feels trapped in a pattern, yet he does not say what will happen next. We cannot know whether the woman truly has another date or whether he is only guessing; what matters in the lyrics is his sense of being forgotten and unable to let go.
