Eternity

The song sounds like a tender farewell to someone who has been an important friend. The speaker cannot promise to take away the other person’s pain, but offers to try and stay supportive. The mood moves between sadness about betrayal and the past, gratitude for shared memories, and hope that the friend will become free of whatever is troubling them.

“Summer dreaming” suggests a warm, hopeful time the two people shared, rather than necessarily one specific summer. Watching the sun go down and choosing a star create a quiet image of companionship and time passing. The line about youth being “wasted on the young” is a familiar-sounding reflection: people may not fully value youth until it has passed. “Find your freedom” may mean escape from hurt, pressure, or a difficult situation; the lyrics do not specify exactly what holds the friend back.

The repeated wish for freedom “for eternity” gives the farewell a lasting, almost solemn quality, while the final word “eventually” makes the hope more realistic: healing may take time. The song does not explain what betrayal occurred or whether the separation is permanent. Its comfort comes less from solving the problem than from recognizing the friendship and wishing the other person well.
