The “Pied Piper” is an image of a guide who leads others by attracting them to follow. Here, the speaker uses the name to present himself as someone who knows where life is “at”—an informal way of saying what is worthwhile or where the action is. He also suggests that the woman’s difficulties may come from her own thoughts: her mind is “trickin’” her, making life seem worse than it is. “Step in line” means to fall into step or follow along.

The lyrics can be heard as reassurance: the speaker believes she is not truly defeated and encourages her to take a chance. But the song leaves open whether his confidence is helpful or self-serving. Asking her to “trust” him and follow without explaining where he will lead could sound comforting, or it could suggest that he wants her to surrender her own judgment.
